Honeymoon in the Dominican republic in the last 2 weeks of September ?

Hi everyone, me and mywife are planing to land in Santo Domingo at the 18th of Sep. My Q's are: whice places are much safer and more sunny? Do we Have a Chance to enjoy the beach? We can go anywhere the island, Is it a problum to book in a resort at the same day? Thanx
