Question on Future of Metal Fab industry?

I'm not an economist.Hell I can barely do division,I'm taking an educated guess however that the rising cost of metal will hurt the entire industry.So my question is, What exactly can person getting into metal fabrication expect for pay and quality of lifestyle?
