Is it common to get a bigger refund than what you paid in?

After doing my taxes (and not filing yet) on a few websites, all of them are reporting that I will receive 745 in a refund. I paid a little over 200 in federal taxes. I know it sounds like I haven't made much money at all but I graduated from college in December of 2009 and didn't find a job until the spring and then got hurt at work from August-Dec and received workman's comp. Is this because if the EIC due to my small number on my W2? Just curious. Thanks.
